Exeter sits on the Squamscott River, with a town center around the bandstand and Phillips Exeter Academy nearby. Newmarket is to the north on the Lamprey River.

The market also takes in Stratham, Newfields, Brentwood, Kensington, East Kingston, Kingston, Fremont, Epping and South Hampton, between the coast and the Route 101 corridor.

Geography

The Squamscott River runs from Exeter north into Great Bay, the tidal estuary shared with Newington, Greenland, Durham and Newmarket. The Lamprey River reaches the bay at Newmarket, and the Exeter River winds inland through Brentwood, Fremont and Kingston.

Landmarks and open space

Great Bay and its tidal shoreline define the northern edge of the market. Great Pond sits in Kingston, and the Exeter River corridor runs through the inland towns.

Transportation and access

Route 101 crosses the market east to west between Epping and the coast, connecting to I-95 near Hampton. Route 108 links Newmarket, Newfields, Exeter and Kingston, and Route 125 runs north to south through Epping, Brentwood and Kingston. Amtrak's Downeaster stops in Exeter.
