What to know before you buy

New Hampshire has no general sales tax and no state income tax on wages. Municipal services are funded primarily through local property taxes, so rates — and what they buy — vary meaningfully from town to town. Ask us for the current rate on any town you're considering rather than relying on a statewide average.

Real estate transfers are subject to the New Hampshire Real Estate Transfer Tax, assessed on both buyer and seller. Waterfront, shorefront and seasonal-access properties carry additional diligence: septic and shoreland permitting, road maintenance agreements, and year-round access.

Market conditions vary by region and by town, and seasonal markets such as the Lakes Region and the mountain towns behave differently from year-round commuter markets. Ask a local agent for current conditions in the specific town you're considering.
