Our story
Two decades of local expertise
Bean Group was founded in Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 2003 on a single belief: real estate is local. Every neighborhood has its own character, every market its own rhythm, and the agent standing in the kitchen should know the street, the schools and the tax bill.
From that Portsmouth startup Bean Group grew across New England, and in 2023 moved onto the eXp Realty platform. What stayed local was the same agents and the same town-level market knowledge; what was added was a national brokerage, a national referral network, and a deeper technology infrastructure behind every transaction.

2003
Founded in Portsmouth
Michael Bean opens Bean Group on the New Hampshire Seacoast around a simple premise: real estate is local, and the agent standing in the kitchen should know the street, the schools and the tax bill.
2005–2012
Across four New England states
Bean Group expands into Maine, Massachusetts and Vermont. Over the course of its growth the company is named to the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies nine times.
2013–2019
A search platform of our own
Investment shifts to technology: live MLS search, town-level market data, and one of New England's highest-traffic brokerage websites — the ancestor of the search you're using now.
2020–2022
Rethinking the model
Through the pandemic market, leadership reviews what platform would serve clients and agents best over the following decade.
2023
Brokered by eXp Realty
Bean Group moves onto the eXp Realty platform. For clients this meant the same local agents and the same local market knowledge, now backed by a national referral network and a larger technology stack.
2024–present
Five states, one team
Bean Group operates across New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont and Florida, with town-level coverage and market reporting for the communities we serve.
